Algerians march with national flags during an anti-government protest in the northern coastal city of Oran on April 9, 2019.

During Friday demonstrations in the Algerian capital, Algiers, protesters demanded the departure of all figures associated with the regime of ousted president Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Abayomi Azikiwe, an editor with the Pan-African News Wire said the Western powers seek to pursue their own interests in the current volatile situation in Algeria; so, the Algerian people should take lessons from “what happened in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya.”

“The West, the United States and possibly France, would be interested in destabilizing Algeria from the standpoint that it is a resource rich country,” Azikiwe warned.
