“Armed terrorist groups have consistently used civilians as human shields and in the last 20 days Damascus has been targeted with 1000 shells,” al-Jaafari said at a UN Security Council session on Syria.
He added that supporting terrorists in Syria is the main task of US-led international coalition.
Al-Jaafari affirmed that some countries’ support to terrorists cost USD 137 billion and WikiLeaks uncovered the US anti-Syrian policies.
Al-Jaafari affirmed that only the Syrian people can decide the future of their country through the intra-Syrian national dialogue.
He added that the US presence in Syria violates the UNSC resolution no.2254, which confirms the preservation of the sovereignty, independence and unity of Syria.
Elsewhere, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad says the country's army has the ability to eliminate terrorism if the Western countries stop supporting terrorist groups in the country.
Speaking in Damascus, Mikdad added that the United States wants to prolong the period of war in Syria.
Mikdad said that the Syrian government refutes Syria’s possession of any weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, as it considers that the use of chemical weapons in any circumstance, anytime, anywhere is unethical and unacceptable.
“We call on the United Nations to investigate the actions and practices of the United States, which threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Syria and aim at the liquidation of the Syrian people, contradicting the objectives and principles of the UN.”
Referring to the recent downing of Israeli Regime's F-16 warplane by Syrian air defense forces, Mikadadi warned that the Syrian Army will down any jet that launches assault on the country's territory adding that this is not a mere threat.
