In an interview with Iran’s Spanish-language Hispan TV, Maduro said the Caracas government takes Washington’s military threats seriously and is already making preparations “to protect our borders and territorial integrity.”
Lajos Szaszdi, political commentator said that “Russia – because it is an important ally – considers Venezuela as a strategic partner [and] is not going to abandon, is not going to leave in lurch the government of Nicolas Maduro and any military action by the US and its allies – Brazil, Colombia – could precipitate Russian action.”
The analyst also referred to the current strained ties between Washington and Moscow, which will play a key role in both sides’ stance towards Venezuela.
“We (the world nations) are in a cold war between Russia and the US and I believe that Venezuela is part of this cold war now,” Szaszdi added.
