Mark Glenn, a writer and co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement, an interfaith forum dedicated to uniting Muslims and Christians against Zionists, made the remarks.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump lied again about Iran in an effort to trick the Democrat-led House of Representatives to agree to pay for the southern border wall.
In a fallacious tweet on Wednesday, Trump wrote that “Democrats and President Obama gave Iran 150 Billion Dollars”, arguing that they should pay $5 billion for the Mexico border wall.
Glenn said, “Politics is a nasty business even in the best of circumstances. But in American politics and especially those politics in America that feature often time warring factions within organized Zionist interests going at each other’s throats, all sorts of things take place that you would not expect to see otherwise.”
“And the fact that Trump is forced to go to these ridiculous lengths in order to just execute the duties that he have been put in front of him by virtue of him been having been elected president with regards to the nation’s security, with regards to enforcing already existing laws on the books dealing with the immigration. [It] indicates that when a man is in such a desperate place he will resort to desperate means,” he stated.
“Now how he could have arrived this number of $150 billion is beyond any of us to actually calculate. Trump is famous after all for countering up facts and figures that are part of the normal lexicon and normal mainstream discussion taking place in the political world,” he stated.
Iranian officials have already dismissed Trump’s claim that Iran's frozen assets in overseas banks amounted to around $150 billion.
In total, $29 billion of Iranian cash has been blocked as a result of US sanctions, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) announced in 2015.
“It is entirely possible that him arriving at this figure of $150 billion is simply the result of him being worn down from all of the daily screeching and screaming with which that he is forced to contend with instead of doing the business that he is entailed to do at his office of the president,” Glenn said.
“I am not entirely surprised to see this. Furthermore I would not be surprised to see others examples like this come out in the days and weeks and months ahead and particularly as the Democrats take over the new government next month, because if we thought that it was loud and noisy and dirty, the last two years when we had the Republicans holding both house of Congress, then we can just imagine what is going to happen once these Democrats get hold of the House of Representatives. As the old saying goes we here often, ‘We ain’t seen nothing yet folks,’” he concluded.
