Pope Francis Meets Ayatollah Sistani in Najaf

Islam Times - During his visit to Iraq, Pope Francis met the top Shai marja' in Iraq, Ayatollah Ali Sistani, on Saturday morning.

The leader of the world's Catholics, Pope Francis, accompanied by his delegation, went to Ayatollah Sistani's house in Najaf this morning.



After more than a year of COVID restrictions, Pope Francis arrived in Iraq on Friday on a four-day trip amid tight security and curfews.

Upon his arrival, the pope was greeted by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi and a group of officials at Baghdad airport.

He also met Iraqi President Barham Salih yesterday.
