Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will set off from Tehran for New York to deliver a speech at the 74th United Nations General Assembly session about the Islamic Republic's stance on the latest regional and international developments.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani would leave Tehran on Monday to attend the annual meeting and hold talks with the UN Secretary General António Guterres and senior officials of countries attending the events as well as heads of some international organizations, Iranian president's deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, said on Sunday.
He added that the Iranian president would also meet senior media managers and US foreign policy elites and attend press conferences.
He noted that President Rouhani is scheduled to head for Tehran on Thursday.
Addressing a military parade commemorating the 39th anniversary of the start of the Iran-Iraq War on Sunday, Rouhani said Iran will present at the United Nations this year an initiative for regional cooperation to ensure peace in the Strait of Hormuz.
Rouhani said Iran extended a hand of friendship and brotherhood to all its neighbors and was “even ready to ignore their past mistakes... because the enemies of Islam and the region” were seeking to take advantage of the rifts among regional states.
