Spokesman Dismisses EU Foreign Policy Chief’s Allegations against Iran

31 Jan 2025 07:23

Islam Times - The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry refuted the accusations that High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and her spokesperson have leveled against Iran.

In a statement, Esmaeil Baqaei recommended the EU officials to understand the true meaning of concepts such as “threat” and “international peace and security” and refrain from distorting those terms.

He emphasized that the primary and persistent threat to global peace and security is the apartheid and occupying Israeli regime that possesses a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction.

“Over the past 15 months alone, this regime (Israel) has carried out a ruthless genocide, killing more than 60,000 innocent people, committing the most heinous international crimes, and continuing its aggression and occupation,” Baqaei said.

The spokesman stressed that Iran has nothing to do with the Ukraine crisis, saying Tehran has consistently emphasized the need to end the war and use diplomacy to settle disputes.

Baqaei said blame-shifting and accusing others cannot resolve the crises resulting from Europe’s own flawed policies.

Rejecting claims that Iran supports terrorism, the spokesman said the European Union must recognize that when some of its key members openly host terrorist groups and elements, it loses its moral standing to accuse others.

Interference in the internal affairs of other countries under deceptive pretexts, such as human rights, is unacceptable, he said, adding that human rights should not be misused as a tool for political intervention.

Reaffirming that Iran’s nuclear program is entirely peaceful, Baqaei said Europe should remind itself that it lacked the will and independence to uphold the agreement it helped establish. “With the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, Europe failed to fulfill its commitments,” he stated.

Baqaei noted that if the European Union seeks to play an effective and constructive role on the international stage, it must adopt a realistic approach based on justice, respect for the rights of other nations, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, the ministry’s website reported.
