Islam Times - The United Nations has voiced "deep concern" over the Israeli military's use of "unlawful lethal force" during its recent raids in Jenin, located in the occupied West Bank, which involved tactics typically reserved for warfare.
"The deadly Israeli operations in recent days raise serious concerns about unnecessary or disproportionate use of force, including methods and means developed for warfighting, in violation of international human rights law, norms, and standards applicable to law enforcement operations," UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Thameen al-Kheetan stated during a media briefing in Geneva.
Al-Kheetan highlighted the use of multiple air strikes and incidents of apparent indiscriminate shooting targeting unarmed residents as they attempted to flee or seek safety.
On Friday, Israeli forces blocked four main entrances to Jenin city and its refugee camp, intensifying a deadly operation now in its fourth day. Israeli officials have defended the actions, claiming the operations aim to dismantle militant networks in the area.
The raids have resulted in 12 Palestinian deaths as of Friday, with dozens more wounded or detained. Thousands of residents have been forced to flee the city, local sources said.
