Israeli Military Chief of Staff Resigns
22 Jan 2025 07:03
Islam Times - The Chief of Staff of the Israeli regime's army announced on Tuesday that he would resign in March, as he has yet 10 months to end his 3-year term.
Why it matters:
Herzi Halevi announced his resignation, effective March 6, as he admitted his military failure to prevent Hamas' Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023, saying that he had informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz of his decision.
Flashback:
The Israeli regime suffered an "irreparable" military and intelligence defeat by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in response to the Israeli decades-long occupation of Palestine.
What he is saying:
In a letter to Israel's prime minister and defense minister, released by the Israeli military, Halevi expressed: "Due to my responsibility for the IDF's failure on October 7, and considering the military's remarkable achievements in restoring Israel's deterrence and strength, I intend to conclude my tenure on March 6, 2025."
State of play:
After a 15-month war, and the killing of more than 46,000 Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, the Israeli regime, without achieving its goals, was forced to accept a ceasefire agreement with Hamas; Yet, as CNN reported, at least 7 Palestinians were killed as a result of Israeli attacks on the West Bank on Tuesday evening.
Go Deeper:
As a result of the Israeli regime's consecutive failures to compensate for their defeat in the Palestinian historic anti-Zionist operation, numerous resignations occurred either in the regime's army or in its cabinet since October 7, 2023.
