Islam Times - China Warns Philippines, U.S. Over South China Sea, AI Governance

Islam Times - The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while recalling China's sovereignty and rights over the South China Sea, urged the Philippines to refrain from provocative actions in the region.

According to Iran Press News Agency from Beijing, Zhao Lijian stated that patrols and law enforcement by China's coast guard in these waters are completely in line with international law.

Zhao Lijian emphasized, “We strongly demand that the Philippine side immediately stop violating the law and engaging in provocative noise regarding the South China Sea issue, and cease all actions that undermine peace and stability and complicate disputes in the South China Sea.”
Responding to questions regarding reports that the Philippines has accused China of an "increasing aggression" in the South China Sea, the Chinese diplomat asserted that what China is doing in the South China Sea is based on historical rights and in line with international law.

Regarding U.S. interference in China's use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the development of this technology, Zhao Lijian stated, “AI is a shared asset of humanity and should not become a tool for countries or wealthy individuals to create divisions and discrimination in the world.”

The Chinese diplomat pointed out that the U.S. has introduced hierarchical structures to maintain its hegemony in this field. “Their primary goal is to deprive developing countries, including China, of their rights to technological advancement, which is contrary to the common interests of countries promoting responsible development of AI.”

The spokesperson criticized the U.S. actions aimed at raising concerns about a new Cold War in technology, adding that many American tech companies and industry associations have explicitly opposed the measures taken by the Biden administration.

Zhao Lijian stressed, “China is an active supporter and practitioner of global governance in AI. China has proposed the initiative for global AI governance and seeks to pass a resolution on this matter at the United Nations General Assembly.”

He called on all friendly countries of China to collaborate with China to create an open and inclusive space for equal and non-discriminatory access to AI, ensuring benefits for all.
