The Syrian army supported by the Russian Aerospace Force delivered missile strikes against gathering areas, control posts and positions of militants, Captain Oleg Ignasyuk, the deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, said at a briefing.
The operation to thwart the aggression of extremists continues, Ignasyuk added.
“In these operations, nine multiple rocket launch systems, seven tanks, 28 armored combat vehicles, 14 military vehicles, as well as a command center, an ammunition depot, and a drone storage facility were destroyed,” Ignasyuk said in the statement.
Opposition sources in Syria reported Russian airstrikes on militant positions in Khan Sheikhoun, located in southern Idlib province.
Earlier today, Russian fighter jets also struck a convoy of militants crossing the Rastan Bridge between Hama and Homs, hitting the group twice during their transit.
Meanwhile, the Syrian army announced it had regained control of the Hama Military Airport, the headquarters of the elite 87th Brigade, and the Zain al-Abidin mountain area, located five kilometers north of Hama city.
In the early hours of Friday, Syrian forces also recaptured the villages of Khatab and Maarzaf in northern Hama.
This follows Thursday evening’s confirmation by the Syrian army that militants from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorists had entered Hama city, prompting government forces to withdraw to protect civilians.
