Israeli Airstrike Hits Syria-Lebanon Border, Wounding Civilians

26 Nov 2024 09:56

Islam Times - At least two civilians were wounded in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Jusiyah crossing near the Syria-Lebanon border on Monday, according to Syria's state news agency SANA.

The attack occurred around 9 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), as Israeli forces launched an aerial assault from Lebanese territories. The Jusiyah crossing, which has been previously bombed, was hit again, causing damage to the facility. The strike resulted in the injury of two civilians, as well as material damage.

On Saturday, Israeli airstrikes had already targeted the crossing in the al-Qusayr area of Syria’s Homs province, inflicting severe damage.

The United Nations refugee agency estimates that since September 23, around 560,000 individuals have fled Lebanon to Syria due to the ongoing war, which has intensified with Israeli air raids on Lebanon.

Israel's strikes on Syria come amid its continuing offensive on Gaza and Lebanon.

In Gaza, the Israeli military's air and ground assaults have killed at least 44,235 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than 104,600 others wounded since October 7, when Palestinian resistance movements launched the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah, in support of Gaza, opened a front in southern Lebanon, joining the fight against Israeli forces.

As of October 8, 2023, Lebanese health authorities reported that over 3,600 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon, with more than 15,300 others injured and over one million displaced.

In a separate incident, a military bus carrying Syrian soldiers was attacked by an explosive device on the highway between Homs and Masyaf.

The attack occurred near al-Haisa village, leaving eleven soldiers wounded, one critically.
The injured were transported to a nearby military hospital for treatment.

Syria continues to face sporadic attacks from remnants of the Daesh terrorist group, which seized large parts of the country in 2014 before being defeated by Syrian forces and their allies in 2019.

The Syrian government has accused the US, Israel, and their allies of supporting Takfiri groups that destabilize the country.

Israel has been a principal supporter of factions opposing the government of President Bashar al-Assad since the onset of the Syrian conflict more than a decade ago.
