Former Israeli War Minister Gallant to Visit US amid ICC Warrants

25 Nov 2024 10:43

Islam Times - Former Israeli war minister Yoav Gallant is set to travel to the United States, according to Israeli Army Radio, less than a week after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for him and the Israeli prime minister.

The ICC has accused Benjamin Netanyahu and Gallant of using starvation as a method of warfare and committing crimes against humanity, including murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.

The court concluded that the Israeli blockade of Gaza created living conditions "calculated to bring about the destruction of part of the civilian population."

The United States, which is not a member of the ICC, has questioned the court’s legitimacy and rejected its ruling.

Despite helping negotiate the Rome Statute in 1998, Washington opted out of joining the ICC, leaving it free of obligations to enforce the warrants.

Gallant's visit raises questions about potential diplomatic and legal implications as he enters US jurisdiction.

Israel's genocide in Gaza has killed at least 44,211 Palestinians and wounded 104,567 since October 7, 2023.

Since the start of the war on Gaza, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 3,754 people and injured 15,626 others.
