Islam Times - Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized his readiness for talks on Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing, commenting on a Reuters piece on possible contacts on the matter between Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump.
"The president has repeatedly and consistently stated his readiness for contact and negotiations," the spokesman said, TASS reported.
The Russian president has repeatedly affirmed Moscow's readiness for negotiations on Ukraine. However, such talks have been legally prohibited by the Kiev government, which has set the unrealistic goal of Ukrainian forces reclaiming the 1991 borders. The West supports these ambitions, emphasizing the need to "inflict a strategic defeat" on Russia.
Putin noted that Moscow was ready to achieve the goals of the special operation in Ukraine by political and diplomatic means, and the agreements prepared for the talks in Istanbul in March 2022 could form the basis of the agreements. The principles of the future treaty included commitments on Ukraine's neutral and non-bloc status, as well as refusal to deploy foreign weapons, including nuclear arms, on its territory.
