The Foundation of Dialogue and Solidarity of the United Nations (FODASUN), dedicated to promoting peace and human rights, hosted its sixth annual international conference amid critical challenges in West Asia.
The event brought together distinguished speakers from domestic and international backgrounds, addressing pressing issues related to peace, justice, and human rights.
The conference’s closing statement underscored the urgent need for peace, justice, and coexistence in a world fraught with political, military, and economic conflicts.
"Promoting peace and respecting national sovereignty are among humanity’s most important responsibilities, paving the way for a more just and sustainable global order," the statement read.
FODASUN’s key points from the closing declaration included:
1. International Law as a Pillar of Peace:
The statement highlighted that adherence to international law, including the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is vital for fostering peace.
It condemned actions undermining national sovereignty, calling such violations dangerous and irreversible.
2. Respect for Sovereignty:
The NGO stressed that respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity is fundamental to international law.
"Disregarding this principle damages international relations and exacerbates crises and conflicts," it noted, urging all parties to adhere to these essential norms.
3. Role of Global Institutions:
FODASUN urged global institutions like the United Nations to take a proactive role in resolving regional crises.
"Genuine peace can only be achieved when justice and human rights are universally upheld," it stated.
4. Impact of Sanctions on Iran:
The conference criticized unilateral sanctions on Iran, describing their profound impact on the economy and access to essential goods.
"These sanctions have caused immense suffering among ordinary citizens and hindered Iran’s development," the statement added, calling for their immediate removal.
5. Need for International Cooperation:
Addressing ongoing crises, FODASUN emphasized the necessity of international collaboration through diplomacy, mediation, and preventive measures.
Without collective will, achieving peace in regions like Gaza and Lebanon remains elusive, it warned.
6. Call for a Gaza Ceasefire:
The NGO demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, citing significant civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction.
"This action reflects a commitment to humanitarian principles and international law," it said, urging global support for Palestinian rights and justice.
7. Support for Lebanon’s Stability:
The statement called for an end to threats and attacks against Lebanon, advocating respect for its sovereignty and independence.
"Enhancing peace and security in Lebanon would contribute significantly to stability in the Middle East," it concluded.
FODASUN’s conference underscored the interconnectedness of regional crises and the critical need for global efforts to foster peace, justice, and human rights.
