Yellow Vest Protesters Mark Sixth Anniversary across France

17 Nov 2024 09:30

Islam Times - Demonstrators gathered in Paris and cities across France on Saturday to mark the sixth anniversary of the Yellow Vest movement, voicing discontent against President Emmanuel Macron's policies and economic inequality.

Protests began near the Palais Royal in Paris, where demonstrators carried French and Palestinian flags alongside banners demanding "Macron out" and declaring, "Six years, we are not tired."

One protester, dressed as Robin Hood, accused President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Michel Barnier of "taking from the poor to give to the rich," a sentiment echoed by others in the crowd.

Marianne, a regular participant in the protests, emphasized the demand for "direct democracy" and the ability to dismiss politicians through referendums.

Catherine Lassure, adorned with a Palestinian flag draped over her shoulders, criticized the Macron administration, describing its policies as "harmful."

The Yellow Vest movement, which began on November 17, 2018, initially opposed fuel price hikes but soon expanded to challenge broader economic inequality. Over the years, the protests have drawn massive crowds and faced significant police crackdowns, resulting in the deaths of 11 participants.

The movement continues to stand as a symbol of resistance to Macron's policies, with demonstrators vowing to persist in their demands.
