Israeli Forces Attack Gaza Shelters Soon after UN Aid Delivery

13 Nov 2024 11:27

Islam Times - The United Nations reports that Israel allowed only one aid convoy into northern Gaza this month, but soon after, attacked shelters where the supplies were distributed, forcing people to flee.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that Israeli authorities have either denied or obstructed all efforts to deliver essential food and healthcare to tens of thousands of people stranded in northern Gaza this month.

According to OCHA, Israeli officials permitted just one World Food Program (WFP) convoy entry into the area on November 11.

The convoy included two trucks loaded with ready-to-eat rations and wheat flour, along with a third truck carrying bottled water. The aid was distributed at the Mahdia al-Shawwa School, which was sheltering displaced Palestinians, and another nearby public shelter, OCHA reported.

Shortly after the aid distribution, Israeli forces surrounded the area, shelled it, and compelled residents to evacuate.

Earlier reports from Palestinian media indicated that Israeli forces set fire to the Mahdia al-Shawwa School and demolished the building.

UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths told the UN Security Council that the world is “witnessing acts reminiscent of the gravest international crimes in Gaza.” Israeli officials rejected warnings of famine in the region, labeling such claims as “dishonest” and “slanderous.”

Meanwhile, as the United States assessed its 30-day deadline to increase aid to Gaza, it concluded that Israel was not blocking aid delivery, though aid groups reported worsening conditions within the enclave.

Israel’s genocide in Gaza has led to at least 43,665 Palestinian fatalities and over 103,000 injuries since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
