Islam Times - Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji pledged that the central government in Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region would prevent any action that may jeopardize Iran’s security.

Heading a high-ranking security delegation, the Iraqi official met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on Sunday.

In the talks, Araqchi highlighted the excellent relations between Tehran and Baghdad in all areas and underlined the significance of security cooperation between the two neighbors.

He noted that advancing the cooperation would further enhance bilateral ties, especially in the economic sector, the ministry’s website reported.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the relations between the two countries are strategic and exceptional, stating, “We consider Iraq's security as our own security and hope that with the full implementation of the security agreement, sustainable security in the border areas of the two countries will be ensured.”

For his part, Iraq's national security advisor provided a report on the progress of the security agreement's implementation and reaffirmed the Iraqi government's commitment to its full execution.

“Iran and Iraq, as two Muslim nations and neighbors, enjoy excellent bilateral relations under the shadow of border security and stability, exemplified by the safe and grand Arbaeen pilgrimage this year, with over 21 million pilgrims traveling in complete security,” Araji added.

He also assured that Iraq considers Iran's security as its own and that any anti-security actions against Iran will be met with responses from the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.

The two officials also reviewed the latest developments in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the need for greater efforts and synergy among the Islamic countries to quickly stop the Zionist regime’s war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon and to deliver humanitarian aid to the displaced people.
