Islam Times - A series of rockets targeted a US military base near Baghdad International Airport, with no casualties reported, amid ongoing regional tensions involving US support for Israel's genocidal war in Gaza and Lebanon.

Multiple Katyusha rockets were launched in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport, according to two Iraqi military officials who spoke to Reuters on Tuesday.

Three rockets were directed at a base housing US troops at the airport.

Two of the rockets were intercepted by the base's defense systems, while the third fell within the airport grounds, causing no damage or casualties.

"All military personnel are accounted for, and military forces were not the intended target as had been initially reported," a US defense official told Reuters, speaking anonymously.

The United States has faced increasing criticism in the region for its military support of Israel during its ongoing aggressions in Gaza and Lebanon.

Resistance groups in the regions have vowed to target US interests as long as Washington continues backing Israel militarily.

On Monday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for new operations targeting Israeli sites in the occupied Palestinian territories, citing retaliation for Israel's criminal acts in Gaza and Lebanon.

"In continuation of our resistance to the occupation and in support of our people in Palestine and Lebanon, our fighters attacked designated targets early Monday, 30-9-2024," the group said in a statement.

Since early October, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has launched repeated attacks against Israeli positions in response to the war in Gaza.

The group has also carried out strikes on US military bases in Iraq and Syria, citing Washington's support for Israeli genocide.

Israel has been conducting a large-scale military campaign against the Gaza Strip, striking civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and places of worship, following the surprise offensive launched by Palestinian resistance movements on October 7.

At least 41,600 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, many of them women and children, with over 96,210 wounded.

Approximately 1.9 million people, representing nearly 90% of Gaza’s population, have been displaced amid the ongoing Israeli war.
