Hezbollah Confirms Martyrdom of Senior Commander in Israeli Raid

25 Sep 2024 10:33

Islam Times - Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement announced the martyrdom of one of its senior commanders and another member during an Israeli raid in Beirut, denouncing the attack as a “treacherous Israeli assassination operation.”

The group identified the victims as Ibrahim Mohammed Qobaisi, also known as Haj Abu Musa, and Hussein Hani Ezz el-Din, referred to as Hajj Fares.

According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the raid resulted in six fatalities and injured 15 others.

Hezbollah released Qobaisi's biography, noting that the 62-year-old had been with the organization since its founding in 1982.

The resistance group stated that Qobaisi “rose through the ranks of organizational responsibilities within the structures of the Islamic Resistance,” participating in numerous senior leadership courses.

His leadership experience included commanding Hezbollah’s Badr Military Unit from 2001 to 2018 and overseeing various rocket formations.

The group also emphasized that Qobaisi “supervised and planned many operations of the Islamic Resistance against the Israeli occupation.”

The assassinations are part of an Israeli escalation against Lebanon, which has intensified since October 7, when Israel launched a significant genocidal military campaign against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, Israeli airstrikes across southern and eastern Lebanon killed at least 569 individuals, including 50 children and 94 women, while injuring around 5,000.

This latest wave of violence follows an attack last week that claimed 38 lives, including three children and seven women, and resulted in the death of Ibrahim Aqil, another senior Hezbollah commander.

A few days prior, Israel detonated thousands of booby-trapped pagers and walkie-talkie radios across Lebanon, resulting in at least 39 deaths and injuring 3,000.

In response to the aggression, Hezbollah has conducted numerous operations targeting the occupied Palestinian territories.

Earlier this week, the group executed its farthest-reaching strikes since October, targeting Ramat David, an Israeli air force base, and the Rafael weapon manufacturing facility near Haifa, among other sites.

Hezbollah has pledged to utilize all available resources to respond to any further extensive Israeli military actions.

The movement previously forced Israel into retreat during conflicts in 2000 and 2006.
