Trump’s IRGC move shows his total subservience to Netanyahu’s Zionist agenda: Scholar

Islam Times - US President Donald Trump’s “designation of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization is in keeping with his total subservience to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Zionist agenda,” says Dennis Etler, an American political analyst who has a decades-long interest in international affairs.

Etler, a former professor of Anthropology at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California, made the remarks on Monday after Trump fulfilled a demand of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and designated the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization.

Netanyahu hailed Trump's decision and said that the US president had responded to a "request of mine."

"Thank you, my dear friend, US President Donald Trump, for having decided to declare Iran's Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization," Netanyahu said in a statement a day ahead of Israeli elections in which he is seeking a fifth term.

"Thank you for responding to another important request of mine,” he added.

Professor Etler said “Trump has endorsed Netanyahu’s maximum program, including recognition of al-Quds Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, annexation of the Golan Heights and incorporation of Jewish settlements in the West Bank as Israeli territory. The Zionist agenda also includes US abrogation of the Iran nuclear deal, the imposition of renewed economic sanctions against Iran and now designation of the IRG as a terrorist organization.”

“There is a quid pro quo for Trump’s support of Netanyahu and that is Trump’s attempt to burnish his credentials with the US Jewish vote. Trump accuses anyone who criticizes Israel’s gross human rights abuses as an anti-Semite in order to garner Jewish voter support and his craven support of Netanyahu’s policies is meant to do the same,” he stated.

“The mutual admiration society of Trump and Netanyahu is based on political opportunism and expediency. Each in turn is meant to help secure and bolster their respective political ambitions. But more than that it is based on a shared fascistic ideology of white supremacy and racism,” he concluded.

Weeks before Israel's legislative elections when Netanyahu was facing an increasingly tough time  Trump invited him to the White House and recognized Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, a border area the Tel Aviv regime seized from Syria in 1967.

Trump handed the pen that he used for his signature to Netanyahu, and said, "Give this to the people of Israel."

Netanyahu called the recognition "historic" and told Trump after he signed the document, “Israel has never had a better friend than you."
