Amid Breathtaking Expectation of Iranian Revenge, What Does Jordanian FM Do in Tehran?

Islam Times - As the tensions between Iran and the Israeli regime escalate, regional mediators are moving to call for Iran to show self-restraint and dissuade Tehran from attacking the occupied territories in revenge for assassination of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in its soil.
After the US messages sent to Iran via regional actors, now the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi is traveling to Iran to personally talk to Iranian acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri on recent regional developments and bilateral ties on behalf of the West.
In recent days, Safadi and Bagheri have talked twice over phone about the latest developments in the region, especially the recent crimes of the Israeli regime, including the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. It is expected that this Jordanian diplomat will meet and consult with a number of other Iranian officials during his trip to Tehran.
There is no doubt that the Jordanian FM is carrying messages from the US and possibly other parties in his trip to Tehran amid the tensions between the Iran-led Axis of Resistance and the Israeli regime.
Jordan probably intends to convey the policy followed by the US in the region to the Tehran officials in order to prevent the escalation of tensions in the region as the White House officials claim.
Jordan's black record of acting in favor of Israeli occupation
In the past years, Jordan has turned itself into a shield for the Israelis while it considers itself the guardian of the Holy Al-Quds, and in fact, it should be the supporter of the suffering Palestinian nation against the boundless oppression of the occupiers.
Jordan was the second Arab country to sign a recognition agreement with the Israeli regime, and since then, instead of supporting Palestine, it has sought to secure the interests of the occupation. In recent years, Israel committed horrible crimes both in Gaza and the West Bank and desecrated the holy Muslim sites, but Amman has made no resolute reaction to force the Israelis back from their actions.
While the guardian of Al-Aqsa should itself more than others stand against the Israeli crimes, it is the Palestinians that bear Jordan's burden. In the Israeli crime in Sheikh Jarah neighborhood of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 2022 that was the first action of the hardline government of Netanyahu against the Palestinians, Jordan turned a blind eye and it was the Palestinian resistance groups that stood against the occupation and launched Operation Sword of Al-Quds.
Jordan's black track record in aligning with Israeli interests can be seen again in the ongoing Gaza war. Against the massive genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, the least that Jordan could do was cut diplomatic ties with the Israeli regime and help arm the Palestinians in the West Bank, but in this regard, Amman even fell behind some Latin American countries and maintained its cooperation with Tel Aviv.
Instead of helping the Palestinian nation, the Jordanians, with the help of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, created a land corridor for the transfer of Israeli goods from the Persian Gulf to the occupied territories to help the Israelis bypass a ban imposed by Yemen's Ansarullah on Tel Aviv in the Red Sea in solidarity with Gaza.
Even the Jordanian government in defense of the Israelis exceeded the expectations of the Tel Aviv leaders and actively helped intercept Iranian missiles and drones with the help of the US when in mid-April Tehran launched an attack on the occupied territories in retaliation for Israeli attack on its consulate in Damascus.
Also, by providing a base to the American forces, Jordan has been on the front line of the opposition to the Axis of Resistance to prevent attacks on the occupied territories. The attack of the Iraqi resistance groups on the Tower 22 in Jordan on January 28 was because the Jordan facilitated American strikes on the Iraqi resistance from its soil.
Also, with the opening of NATO's first Middle East office in its territory last month, Amman has practically become NATO's watchdog in the region, especially for military support to Israel. This office is supposed to monitor all anti-Israeli movements in West Asia and North Africa and, if necessary, deal with threats against the occupied territories, and Jordan looks unafraid to bear this disgrace. Therefore, with the existence of countries such as Jordan, which care more about Israeli interests and security than their own interests, Tel Aviv's leaders have reasons to feel comfortable.
In addition, Jordan did not show any reaction on Friday, when the Israeli forces arrested and exiled the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Akrama Sabri who only expressed his condolences for Haniyeh assassination. Even the political reactions that Jordan and other Arab leaders have had against the crimes of the occupiers, were merely demonstrative actions that did not heal the great sufferings of the oppressed Palestinian nation.
Tehran's decline to retaliate will catalyze tensions
In the past ten months, when the defenseless people of Gaza have been in the worst human condition and struggling with death every day, the Jordanian officials did not conduct any diplomatic consultation to convince the world to stop the crime in Gaza, but now that the Israelis are rattling in expectation of Iran and Hezbollah attacks, efforts are being made by Amman to ease the fear and worry of the Israelis. The important point is that this unrewarded service to Israel and the West by Jordan is done under the title of preventing instability and the spread of war in the region, while now all the political observers including those in the West agree that Israelis are pressing for an escalation and war in the region.
Since the establishment of this fake regime, the Israeli leaders have been pursuing the realization of their long-standing dream of "from the river to the sea" and they are advancing this policy step by step, and it has been Iran and the resistance groups that have prevented the realization of this grave plot in the past decades.
In the international system, legitimate defense is accepted, and by the way, if an appropriate and regretful reaction is not done against the arrogance of the enemy, the Israelis will find more courage to take push ahead with their destabilizing actions and compromise regional security.
So, to restore its prestige and give an appropriate response to the Israeli violation of its territory, Iran inevitably should launch an operation to send a message to its enemy that if Tel Aviv continues its adventure, the Resistance camp will counter it with all its might. Certainly, the political activism of the mediators will not be able to shake the will of Tehran, Hezbollah and other groups in the region to give a multifaceted and combined response to the bloodthirsty Israeli enemy.
Meanwhile, Jordan and other pro-compromise Arab sides should know that repeat of their treasonous role of acting as Israel's shield does not serve their interests and can involve the whole region in a crisis.
Also, Jordan's moves come as the regional public opinion support retaliatory attacks on the occupied territories and will detest any country that stands on the side of the occupation.
The main reason Israel continues its crimess is not the resolute support by the Western camp but the Arab silence and this is what has rendered the occupation arrogant. If the compromising Arab states had cut off their relations with Israel ad impossed sanctions on Tel Aviv at the beginning of Gaza war, things could have developed another way now. But with their silence and even secret support, they gave Israel a leeway to commit crimes, and now they are struggling to prevent Iran's revenge to steer clear of damage and costs to what many belive as the criminal band ruling Tel Aviv.
